Now here’s a good idea. Paddle Points is a website where canoeists and kayakers can go to find where they can launch. The idea is simple. You search for a location on the website and the paddle points in that area will show. Clicking the markers on the map provides more information.

The maps don’t just show launch spots, they also indicate weirs, rapids, slalom, car parking, clubs, and even campsites and pubs. There are already over 3,000 information markers useful to paddlers on this site.

Canoeists and kayakers can add their own paddle points and information so others can benefit. All you have to do is create a free account, find the area on the map, click ‘Add Paddle Point’ and drag the green marker to the location. Then fill in the details.

At Canoe London we checked out a few of our favourite rivers and we were impressed by the amount of information available. Much of this information is probably available from other sources, such as guide books, but it is good to have such a centralised database, especially one that we can add to ourselves.

This looks like a really good resource, check it out at www.paddlepoints.net
