Find kayak, SUP & canoe clubs in London

There are more than 50 canoe clubs in London. Some practice specific types of kayaking, canoeing and SUP, whilst others have a wide range of boats, and members who are interested in different types of canoeing.

The clubs are generally run by volunteers who have a love of the sport. All of the clubs welcome new members, but training for beginners may be limited to specific dates or times of the year.

Bromley Canoe Club

Bromley Canoe Club focuses on leisure paddling, touring and whitewater. Inexperienced new members are always welcome. Open to adults and under 18s.

Canalside Activity Centre

Canoeing and kayaking are taught as part of the onsite programme at Canalside, which caters for all abilities and works with young people from ages of 9 to 19 and up to 25 for those with disabilities. Regular offsite day and residential trips are also organised, which enables members to broaden their horizons, widen their experiences and test themselves in more challenging environments.

Castle Canoe Club

Castle Canoe Club is a canoe / kayak club which aims to provide an open and friendly environment for adult canoeists and kayakers of all standards. Whether a beginner or a more experienced paddler – all are welcome.

Chelsea Kayak Club

Formed in March 2010, Chelsea Kayak Club is a friendly London club for adults which has been set up to specifically focus on sea kayaking and touring.

Chiswick Pier Canoe Club

Chiswick Pier Canoe Club caters for a wide variety of disciplines including touring, white water (freestyle, river running and kayak surfing) and junior canoe polo – but we also welcome people who just want to enjoy being on the Thames. The minimum age is eight, subject to prevailing water conditions.

Civil Service Canoe Club

The Civil Service Canoe Club is a small, friendly club of enthusiastic canoeists, which caters for Civil Servants and employees of other bodies affiliated to CSSC Sports and Leisure (the Civil Service Sports Council). Beginners welcome. Full membership of the Club is open only to members of CSSC Sports and Leisure.


Clapham Canoe Club

Clapham Canoe Club’s main activity is 18+ Canoe Polo, which is a bit like waterpolo or basketball in canoes. Sessions are run at Tooting Leisure Centre. The club also run a Beginners session which is open to the public at Brixton Recreation centre.

The club also runs open sessions at the Brixton Recreation Centre for adult members of the public who want to learn or practise the basics of kayaking.

Cremorne Riverside

Cremorne Riverside is run by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to provide kayaking for young people and the wider community on the tidal River Thames. The centre also runs adult, corporate and leisure sessions.

Croydon Active Paddlers

Croydon Active Paddlers is a small, friendly bunch of paddlers who organise regular kayaking trips all over the country and to local rivers, on a year round basis. During September to April the club runs fortnightly Wednesday night pool sessions at Banstead Leisure Centre. Beginners welcome.

Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre

Located in the heart of London’s Docklands at the west end of Millwall outer dock, the Centre offer British Canoe Union courses in paddlesports as well as courses in Sailing, Windsurfing and Powerboating.

Ealing Canoe Club

Ealing Canoe Club is open to individuals, school groups, youth and other organisations. The minimum age for membership is normally 8 years, but under 12s need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Members enjoy Racing (Sprint & Marathon), Touring, Open Canoeing and General Paddling for fitness and fun.

Edge – progressive paddling

Edge is a club which aims to support anyone in the West London area who is keen to get out on the river but who is anxious a typical canoe club may not be for them. With a diversity of club members, coaches and canoeing experiences, everyone has a place in the club.Theclub has a wide range of boats for all sizes, ages and abilities.

Edmonton Canoe Group

Edmonton Canoe Group was founded in North London and now has a main base at The Herts Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt, with pool sessions at London’s Southgate Leisure Center (Oct-March).

Elmbridge Canoe Club

Elmbridge Canoe Club is a racing and marathon club which is open to adults and under 18s.


Eel Pie Island Club SUP

Eel Pie Island Club SUP (Epic SUP) is a new Stand Up Paddleboarding club that operates from Twickenham Rowing Club.

Fairlop Outdoor Activity Centre

The centre holds Royal Yachting Association and British Canoe Union approval for instruction in dinghy sailing, windsurfing, powerboating and paddlesports.

Hammersmith Blades – closed

Hammersmith Blades is a canoe club open to adults, families and juniors. They have easy access to the river and provide opportunities for freestyle, surfing, river running, racing, polo, slalom and open boating.

Hampton Canoe Club

Part of Hampton’s mission is to introduce new paddlers to the delights of kayaking and canoeing, and to ensure that people paddle safely and competently. Our objective is that new members achieve British Canoe Union qualifications that will allow them to paddle when and where they like.

Hillingdon Junior Canoe Club

Hillingdon Junior Canoe Club provides facilities for young people between the ages of 10-25 years who want to participate in paddlesport, but primarily aimed at a core age between 12 and 18 years. The club is also open to those parents with children at the club who wish themselves to participate / progress in paddlesport.

Based on the River Lea in Hackney, Leaside delivers inspiring and engaging outdoor activities to young people. Leaside provides a variety of activities within an educational framework, including canoeing, mountain biking, orienteering and expeditions.

Lee Valley Paddlesports Club

Lee Valley Paddlesports Club is based at Lee Valley White Water Centre and meets on Wednesday evenings.

Lensbury Watersports Centre

The Lensbury Watersports Centre offers a wide variety of water craft including kayaks and canoes. The centre provides courses, tuition and a variety of clubs.

London Sports Trust Blades

London Sports Trust Blades is a small kayaking club based at Fulham Reach Boat club on the Hammersmith side which is the only kayaking club in the borough that works with children & young people.

London Tideway Kayak Club

Kayak Club based on the tidal Thames in Chiswick, London. Offering kayak lessons for all abilities, and regular training groups.

Meridian Canoe Club

Meridian Canoe Club is based in Bexleyheath and uses the Danson Park lake and Crook Log Pool venues. Meridian is open to all ages. The club competes regularly in Canoe Polo, Slalom and is very active in Flat Water, Surf, Open Boating and White Water.

Nomad Kayak Club

Nomad Kayak Club is a family oriented club engaged in recreational and white water paddling. The club also competes nationally and internationally in canoe polo with six full squads

The Pirate Castle provides an open opportunity for individuals of all ages and abilities to drop in for fun & sociable activities, skills training and trips away.

Phoenix Canoe Club

Phoenix Canoe Club is based at the North Circular Sailing Club on the Welsh Harp Reservoir, in West Hendon, Brent. The club is open to both junior (9-18) and senior paddlers.

Putney Bridge Canoe Club

Putney Bridge Canoe Club is an adult club which runs weekly pool sessions, regular paddles on the Thames in the evenings, surf, whitewater trips and trips abroad.

Purley Canoe Club

Purley Canoe Club is primarily a flat water touring club. Throughout the year the club paddles local rivers like the Thames, Wey, Mole and Medway. New members are welcome.

Regents Canoe Club

An adult club which runs beginner’s courses and organises regular trips to white water rivers as well as the occasional trip to gentler flat water locations.

Richmond Canoe Club

Richmond Canoe Club is a racing club that paddles throughout the year and in all weathers. The club is keen to encourage people of all ages who are keen to take up kayaking and canoeing – ideally to compete in races at whatever level (and there are competitions for all abilities).

Royal Canoe Club

Royal Canoe Club’s primary focus is on the competitive flatwater sprint and marathon disciplines. In addition to adults, the club runs both cadet (10-14 years) and junior (14-18 years) sections and provides support and coaching for all levels from beginner to advanced.

Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activities Centre

The Centre was started in 1976 by local parents and since that time has been transformed from a derelict site into a superb facility for learning watersports and outdoor activities. The site shares its facilities with Tower Hamlets Canoe Club.

The Sharks Canoe Club

The Sharks is a competitive canoeing club, with an interest in slalom, wild water racing, marathon and sprint racing. The club teaches and coaches people of all ages, both youngsters and adults, and organises canoe races, including entry level races in both marathon and wild water racing. The club is based at Perviale and also operates at Harefield.

Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club

Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club has a permanent canoe slalom site situated below Shepperton Weir. There are calm areas for flat water practice, and usually a gently flow from the side spills. When it rains, between one and ten sluice gates may be open creating challenging white water.

Southmere Boating Centre

Southmere Boating Centre offers a great range of watersports activities for adults, young people, schools and youth groups, providing sailing, canoeing, kayaking and power-boat training.

Surrey Canoe Club is a multi-discipline club which is open to everybody, from beginners to advanced. The club is open to all ages, and has an ongoing youth and schools programme.

Tower Hamlets Canoe Club

Tower Hamlets Canoe Club is open to both experienced and new members who want to practice their paddling. The club also plays canoe polo, practices white water playboating, sea kayaking and open canoeing.

University of London Union Canoe Polo Club

The University of London Union Canoe Polo Club is a collection of students, staff and alumni from London Universities who like nothing more than to get cold and wet in the name of canoe polo. Beginners sessions available.

Westminster Boating Base

Westminster Boating Base is an independent charity which teaches dinghy sailing, powerboating, kayaking and canoeing in central London. The base delivers watersports sessions to schools, community groups, adults and young people.

West London White Water
