London paddlers Mike Cross and Andy Lodge headed west last weekend to paddle the Upper Dart. With plenty of rainfall the river was out of its banks and roaring down from the moors. Along with a highly experienced local paddler, Jeremy, they took on the river, and two out of three of them made it to the end in their boats.
Other groups on the river had similar experiences, and as I write Jeremy still hasn’t got his boat back. I’ve paddled with all these guys, but on a river like this I would be out of my league. I’m glad I stuck to a muckier, but safer, type of paddling in London, cleaning up the Lea Navigation.
