This is a junior freestyle competition with a difference – points are awarded for anything you can do in your boat that entertains the crowds. Try waving at the judges, or giving a thumbs up while capsized , or even swimming for big points!
The purpose of the Rodeo is to basically to have fun – you don’t have to be an expert playboater to enter. You don’t even need a playboat!
The Rodeo is being organised by Leaside and will take place in August 2013 at the Lee Valley White Water Centre’s Legacy course. The competition is open to Juniors (9-14) and Seniors (15-19). Last year’s event was a huge success, with the eager competitors displaying a wide range of old school moves, mystery moves, swims and smiles.
There is no skilled entry requirement, but the ability to move around on flat water would be an advantage! Participants don’t require to have passed the Lee Valley Whitewater Test as Leaside will be providing safety cover on the day.

The Rules
This rodeo is aimed at providing young people the chance to participate in a freestyle competition without feeling the need to perform at an advanced level. The rodeo is open to all abilities and aged 9-19. The rodeo will be made up of four categories (male junior/senior and female junior/senior).
There is no skilled entry requirement, but the ability to move around on flat water would be an advantage!
Participants don’t require to have passed the Lee Valley Whitewater Test as Leaside will be providing safety cover on the day. However, since many young people will be on the water at the same time, Leaside would ask that the youth leaders offer assistance in the safety of their groups and other water users.
