STOP PRESS 30/06/12 – Unfortunately the Isle of Wight Sea Kayak Symposium has now been cancelled, following the closure of the Sandpipers Hotel, which was to have provided accommodation and a base for the symposium. As the event runs over an August bank holiday the options for alternative accommodation would have been very limited, so the organisers have had no option but to cancel the event.
The Isle of Wight Sea Kayak Symposium will be on the 25th – 27th of August 2012. Having attended last year I can recommend this event for both aspiring and experienced sea kayakers. It’s not far from London, you get to stay and paddle around the beautiful Isle of Wight, and you get a lot of high class training for your money. It’s also a a not for profit event with all proceeds going to the Freshwater Independent Life Boat.
If you don’t fancy any of the accommodation listed on the website, I’ll happily recommend the Grange Farm campsite which is a ten minute drive from Freshwater Bay http://grangefarmholidays.com/. We went there because they didn’t mind us turning up after 9pm on a Friday evening.
