Back by popular demand, Watermark Experiences will be running a second Zanskar Youth Kayaking Expedition, August 2014.
The expedition is aimed at young paddlers who are looking for an adventurous and challenging kayak experience, alongside professional guidance and leadership. The trip is an amazing opportunity to witness a new culture and environment, as well as the chance to paddle down one of the worlds most beautiful and remote gorges.
As well as a fantastic kayak adventure, the expedition will also focus on developing other key life skills. In the eighteen months leading up to the expedition, the team will be involved in planning and developing the trip. This will enable Watermark to equip the group with the skills needed to prepare for the trip, build strong bonds and a team spirit within the group before the expedition.
Interested?
The expedition is aimed at young paddlers, aged 14-19. You will need to be physically fit, self motivated and willing to work as a team to navigate one of the World’s most breathtaking multi-day river trips, in the Indian Himalayas.
Where?
The Zanskar River is known as the Grand Canyon of Asia and travels through an awe-inspiring 150 km gorge, offering exciting class 3+ and 4 white water. The canyon is severely walled in for long sections between Padum and the Indus confluence, making this expedition a real test of commitment and endurance.
When?
From 12 – 29 August 2014.
How?
The expedition will complete a comprehensive training period of twelve days, prior to the trip in the UK. The team will cover fundraising, team building, kayak training, white water safety and rescue and trip logistics. Watermark will also offer BCU awards during the programme.
The expedition will be split between travel, acclimatisation, paddling and enjoying first hand the beautiful land of Ladakh and its rich culture.
