On 7th May 2017 a group of over one hundred sea Kayakers will take part in the London Kayakathon 2017, paddling 26.2 miles of the river Thames. Starting beneath Tower Bridge, the kayakers will paddle to Chiswick Bridge, before returning to central London. The aim to raise more than £30,000 for a wide variety of different charitable causes.
The London Kayakathon provides a unique opportunity for experienced sea kayakers to raise money for causes that are close to their hearts. One hundred paddlers are expected to take on the challenging 26.2 mile distance along the River Thames this May.
Travelling 13.1 miles upriver with the flood tide to Chiswick Bridge the kayakers will grab a short stop for lunch and to stretch their legs. They will then paddle back to Tower Bridge using the ebb tide. Participants will enjoy spectacular views of the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, the Tower of London and many other famous London landmarks.
This event is not a race. Those taking part need to be experienced kayakers, possessing the appropriate skills to paddle the distance as part of a group. For more information on kayaking on this section of the tidal Thames see Canoeing and Kayaking on the tidal Thames.
The minimum requirement to take part in this event is a British Canoeing three star certificate or equivalent experience. Paddlers must be proficient at self-rescue and able to swim fifty meters wearing a buoyancy aid.
London Kayakathon 2017 entry fee
- £35 for ages 16 to 21. Note: Under 18’s are to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, taking part in the London Kayakathon, who must also sign the Disclaimer of Liability form to be handed in at registration on the day of the event.
- £50 for a single entry
- £90 for a tandem team
The fee will get you your place on the water as well as a London Kayakathon T-shirt and a certificate of completion.

In order to take part in the event, each participant must complete a registration form, available on the London Kayakathon 2017 website. Entry fees can also be paid online through PayPal. No entries will be accepted after the 30th of April 2017.
