Canoe Kayak Trader is running a free demo event at the Nene Whitewater Centre, Northampton on 20th May. This is a fantastic opportunity for recreational and whitewater paddlers to try the latest boats and equipment from the industry’s leading brands. They will have the latest boats available from Jackson thanks to Square Rock, as well as Dagger and Pyranha. They will also be taking a selection of the latest clothing as well as some fantastic offers ideal for the beginning of the summer season.
The Nene Whitewater Centre is about an hour and a half’s drive up the M1 from London.
Demo Boats will be available on the flatwater 10am – 5pm and on the whitewater course 11:30 – 1:30 and 14:30 until17:30. Staff will be on hand to give advice on purchases. There will not be any charge for demos at the Nene but normal course fees apply to the course.

Flatwater Workshops
There will be a number of workshops at the midlands canoe show from people looking to get in a kayak for the first time, to looking at techniques specific to certain aspects of paddlesport including sea kayaking and open canoeing
Kayaking Fundamentals 11:00 – 12:00
Designed to learn the basics off kayaking from getting in and out, to efficent forward paddling, stability control, turning and moving sideways.
Flatwater Freestyle 12:00 – 13:00
If you can do it on the flat, you can do it on whitewater, get opportunity to nail the technique and develop skills which you can transfer on to the feature..
Sit on Top Skills 13:00 – 14:00
Thinking about buying a sit on top, would you like to know the basics of paddling it efficently, also looking theory behind safety on the water
Sea Kayak Handling 14:00 – 15:00
This workshops looks at the differences between whitewater kayaks and sea kayaks, looking at how they handle and the basics of effiencient sea kayaking
Open Canoe Techniques 15:00 – 16:00
Single Blade paddling, open canoeing is a great way to get on the water as a family, this workshop will cover the techniques required to safely enjoy this aspect of paddling.
Whitewater Workshops
There will be a number of workshops at the midlands canoe show from entry whitewater developing the basic techniques, to develop more dynamic paddling techniques, and build whitewater confidence and more..
Intro Whitewater 10:00 – 11:30
This is a session designed for people with little or no whitewater experience, water confidence is required, this is looking at the basic whitewater techniques, including breaking in, breaking out, ferry gliding and selecting a line down a rapid.
Developing Whitewater 10:00 – 11:30
This is a session designed for people with some whitewater experience, moving water roll is ideal, this is looking at devloping grade 3 whitewater skills, including selecting a line down a rapid, considering safety, making tight or technical eddies, and also how to make the most basic rivers more fun!
Developing Whitewater 13:30 – 14:30
This is a session designed for people with some whitewater experience, moving water roll is ideal, this is looking at devloping grade 3 whitewater skills, including selecting a line down a rapid, considering safety, making tight or technical eddies, and also how to make the most basic rivers more fun!
Freestyle Workshops
There will be a number of workshops at the midlands canoe show from entry freestyle developing the basic techniques, to develop dynamic moves in the pourover, looking at loops, Mcnasties and more..
Entry Freestyle 10:00 – 11:30 Based in Pool C
This is a session designed for people with little or no freestyle experience, good moving water roll is required, this is looking at surfing, enders, spins and looking at the basics of cartwheeling
Developing Freestyle 10:00 – 11:30 Based in Pump Pool
This is a session designed for people with some freestyle experience, good moving water roll is required, this is looking at perfecting cartwheels, looking at how to go from one or two end into smooth cartwheels, also looking at the begins of looping
Advanced Freestyle 10:00 – 11:30 Based in Pool A
This is a session designed for people with some freestyle experience (ideally cartwheeling), good moving water roll is required, this is looking at clean cartwheels, developing loops and progressing that into McNasty and Phonix Monkey
Developing Freestyle 13:30 – 14:30 Based in Pump Pool
